Huddle Week 9 Resources
Resources adapted from KC Underground’s Missionary Pathway Tool.
When we live out the good news of Jesus by being a blessing to those whom God has called us, we are able to discover people of peace (those who God is already drawing to himself, who are open to our message, and who act as relational gateways to others). This week we will also unpack the BLESS tool, which helps us to live out missional rhythms in our everyday spaces. As we live out these rhythms, we’re able to recognize which needs feel the most pressing to our missional context and then respond with compassionate acts of service and supernatural encounters. This will oftentimes lead us to new friendships and spiritual conversations.
This week’s Scripture Reading:
Read Acts 16, Romans 1 - 4 and Psalm 32
Take notes in your Discipleship Huddle journal
Suggested Memory Verses: Acts 16:31, Romans 1:16, Psalm 32:8
To Do:
A powerful partner in your community is a Person of Peace. Read Luke 10: 1-12 and then watch the Person of Peace training video.
Living on mission is more about postures and rhythms than activities and programs. But sometimes it's hard to practically wrap our minds around HOW to live on mission, to find persons of peace, and to plant the Gospel with hungry and open people. One tool missionary leaders and use is the acronym B.L.E.S.S.
B.L.E.S.S. is five simple missionary rhythms that Jesus and the early church embodied for us. Blessing isn't really about adding more tasks, it's more about infusing everyday activities we're already doing with new gospel intentionality. These rhythms are simple enough for a five-year-old to understand, but robust enough to create effective and engaged missionaries.
B - Begin in Prayer: Pray with, and for, people to whom God has called you.
L - Listen and Engage: Prioritize asking questions over talking, and create spaces to intentionally engage with those whom God has called you.
E - Eat: Spend time eating meals with people, grabbing coffee, or enjoying happy hour with those to whom God has called you.
S - Serve: Meet needs, be selfless, practically serve others.
S - Story: Share stories of Jesus, point to Kingdom truths, and be ready to invite others to Discover Jesus more (DBS settings).
